How does WiFi Canary monitor my connection?

The app sends lightweight probes to multiple endpoints every few seconds and measures response time. If all probes fail, you're notified instantly.

Does it drain my battery?

No. Probes are tiny HTTP requests (a few bytes). On cellular, the interval increases automatically. You can also disable monitoring per connection type in Settings.

How do I clear my data?

Go to Settings > Data > Clear All Data. This permanently deletes all events, probe results, and statistics from this device and iCloud.

What is the connection grade?

The grade (A+ through F) reflects your connection quality based on latency, stability, and comparison to your historical baseline at the current location.

Why does it need my location?

Location is used to tag outage events so you can see where connectivity issues happen. It also powers the coverage heat map and per-location baselines. Location data stays on your device and in your iCloud account.

What about peer discovery?

When enabled, WiFi Canary finds other instances on your local network to help determine if an outage is device-specific or network-wide. Peer data never leaves your network.
